Last month I gave in to temptation and got some new parts to spiffy up my old computer. It’s but running super awesome and I couldn’t be happier each time I use it.
I basically only kept the case that it was in by the time I was done. I replaced the motherboard, processor, RAM, hard drive, DVD drive, and power supply. Yup that’s everything except the case.
I ordered all my stuff from Newegg.com as usual. Best and worst thing I ever did was get a high credit line with them. So here is a list of my new parts with links to Newegg if you are interested in more info.
- Intel Core i7-860 Lynnfield 2.8GHz LGA 1156 95W Quad-Core Processor
- ASUS P7P55 LX LGA 1156 Intel P55 ATX Intel Motherboard
- OCZ Signature 4GB (2 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1600 (PC3 12800) Desktop Memory
- LG Black 10X Blu-ray Burner – Bulk SATA WH10LS30 LightScribe
- Western Digital Caviar Black WD1001FALS 1TB 7200 RPM SATA 3.0Gb/s 3.5″ Internal Hard Drive
- Diablotek DA Series PSDA500 500W ATX Power Supply
- Thermaltake BlacX 5G ST0019U 2.5″ & 3.5″ Black USB 3.0 Docking Station
I threw on Microsoft Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit for my operating system. Windows 7 rocks, so glad to be away from XP 64-bit finally. I threw in that external BlacX device to plug in my old hard drives in case I needed data off it and to also do quick backups. It moves real fast since its USB 3.0. I transferred 8GB in under 2 minutes!
oh such a computer geek =)
